Los Angeles Lakers’ Austin Reaves Gets 100% Honest After Embarrassing First-Round Exit to Minnesota

Los Angeles Lakers’ Austin Reaves Gets 100% Honest After Embarrassing First-Round Exit to Minnesota

Many thought the  would make a deep postseason run after trading for Luka Doncic at the trade deadline. While there were big question marks on the roster, many believed Doncic’s pairing with LeBron James would be more than enough to push the Purple and Gold to a deep postseason run.

However, it became clear that JJ Redick’s squad failed to overpower the Minnesota Timberwolves as they had huge gaps on their roster. The team’s lack of a capable center was made clear as the Purple and Gold struggled to contain Anthony Edwards,  , and the rest of Chris Finch’s roster.

There are multiple reasons behind the Lakers’ failure to make it to the second round. Some question James’ health issues, while others blame for their shortcomings against a Timberwolves side that didn’t have the best regular season.

However, the third-most important player on the Lakers came clean about what cost the Lakers the win.

Austin Reaves takes part of the blame for the Los Angeles Lakers’ early playoff exit

Reaves didn’t have the worst postseason appearance, but he believed that he could have fared better throughout Los Angeles’ 4-1 series loss to the sixth-seeded Timberwolves.

“I didn’t have the series that I wanted to have. You can point the finger at me. I wasn’t good enough to help us be successful. I wish I coulda done more. I didn’t. I struggled. You live and you learn, and I guarantee that I’ll get back to work this offseason and be better.”

Reaves had a decent postseason. He ended with 16.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists for the Purple and Gold. While these numbers are respectable for the regular season, they weren’t enough to help the Lakers take down the Timberwolves. Reaves would have taken defensive attention off Doncic and James if he were a more consistent scoring threat.

While Reaves’ improved performance could have helped the Lakers make the series more competitive, other factors prevented the Lakers from advancing to the next round. The lack of a solid big man became apparent as the roster failed to give a proper answer to Rudy Gobert’s play. Doncic also had limited time to get to used to the team’s play style.

The Lakers should have a better shot at making a deep postseason run next season, but Reaves and the rest of the Lakers’ supporting staff must carry their weight.

Mike Tirico forced to exit Kentucky Derby coverage early

Mike Tirico had to turn to the bullpen during Saturday’s Kentucky Derby. The longtime NBC announcer Tirico was forced to exit early from the network’s coverage of the annual Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. Tirico was battling an apparent illness but began on NBC’s pre-race coverage as scheduled. It was clear to many fans online though that something was wrong with Tirico’s voice. Shortly after 3 PM local time in Kentucky, NBC officially swapped Tirico out of the broadcast. He was replaced by Ahmed Fareed, who relayed to the viewers that Tirico was “feeling a little under the weather.” The nature of Tirico’s illness was not disclosed. But it probably did not help that Saturday was a cold, wet, and rainy day at Churchill Downs with a high of only 59 degrees on the day. Tirico, 58, has over three decades of experience as a sportscaster and has been with NBC since 2016 (after his contract with ESPN, whom Tirico had worked for since 1991, expired). Over the years, Tirico has taken on a wide multitude of assignments for NBC across all different sports, most notably as the lead play-by-play announcer for “Sunday Night Football” but also as the anchor for events such as The Open Championship, the Indianapolis 500, and both the Summer and the Winter Olympics. Tirico will also have a major role during the NBA’s impending return to NBC next season. In 2017, Tirico succeeded Tom Hammond as NBC’s lead anchor for Triple Crown coverage (including the Kentucky Derby). But this year, Tirico was unable to complete his usual Derby duties for the network due to an apparent illness.

Nathan MacKinnon’s ‘Shocking’ Message After Stars Eliminate Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche saw their season end dramatically Saturday night, blowing a 2-0 third-period lead in Game 7 against the Dallas Stars. Despite goals from Josh Manson in the second period and Nathan MacKinnon to open the third, the Avs conceded four unanswered goals in the final frame, falling 4-2 at American Airlines Center. MacKinnon, who scored just 31 seconds into the final period to double Colorado’s lead, was still in shock about the defeat when addressing the media after the game. “It’s pretty shocking,” MacKinnon said. “Felt like we were in total control, then Mikko (Rantanen)… credit to him, he made some amazing plays. He was the difference maker, took over. ”Yeah, I don’t know. I’m in shock, to be honest.” Mikko Rantanen, traded by Colorado in January and then again from the Carolina Hurricanes to the Stars at the deadline, delivered a hat trick and an assist for Dallas in the third period. Rantanen’s performance marked the first time in NHL history that a player scored a hat-trick in a Game 7 third period. Meanwhile, Wyatt Johnston added the game-winner on the power play with under four minutes left, with Rantanen sealing the game with an empty-net goal. “They were missing their best D-man and maybe their best forward, (and) we still couldn’t beat them,” MacKinnon said. “So, yeah, I don’t know what we’re gonna do.” The Avalanche forced Game 7 with a win in Game 6, but have now lost seven straight Game 7s. Colorado head coach Jared Bednar acknowledged the sting of the collapse with his team surrendering a two-goal lead with under 20 minutes left in regulation. “You’re in a good position, and then it slips away on you,” Bednar said. “It’s tough because I know how hard these guys worked, and how bad they wanted it.” Dallas will face either the Winnipeg Jets or the St. Louis Blues in Round 2, depending on their Game 7 outcome on Sunday.

Cardinals-Dodgers Possible Blockbuster Trade Gets Update

The St. Louis Cardinals have been in trade rumors for months and most of them have had at least something to do with star third baseman Nolan Arenado. Will he end up getting moved this season? Maybe. But, obviously nothing got done throughout the offseason. The Cardinals were linked to the Los Angeles Dodgers on a handful of occasions because Arenado is from the area, but nothing ever came up of substance. USA Today Sports’ Bob Nightengale talked about Arenado on Sunday and shared the Cardinals are still trying to trade him, but noted that the Dodgers haven’t expressed interest in a move at this moment. “Meanwhile, they still are trying to trade All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado,” Nightengale said. “The Los Angeles Dodgers have yet to express interest while still hoping that third baseman Max Muncy escapes his early-season struggles.” So far this season, Arenado has appeared in 30 games and is slashing .237/.326/.395 with three home runs, 13 RBIs, one stolen base, nine doubles, and 13 runs scored. The Cardinals star infielder has provided stellar defense from the hot corner as well that he has become owned for. Trade buzz has picked up in a major way over the last week or so. The Cardinals have played 33 games overall and are 14-19 on the season and in fourth place in the National League Central. If the Cardinals don’t turn things around, the trade rumors are only going to pick up. It hasn’t seemed likely that the Dodgers would be in the mix for Arenado and Nightengale confirmed this fact.

Packers 2025 draft pick reveals he wanted team to take him: ‘It was a dream’

The Green Bay Packers shocked the NFL world, and especially their fans, when they took Matthew Golden, a wide receiver, with their first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Not only did the Packers have a roster that was deep at the position going into the draft, but they also had not taken a wide receiver in the first round since 2002. As if that were not shocking enough, Green Bay continued to focus on the offensive side of the ball with its two picks on the second day of the draft. While many fans called on the team to select a cornerback and/or pass-rusher, the Packers selected offensive lineman Anthony Belton in the second round and another wide receiver, Savion Williams, in the third. Green Bay Packers Rookie Savion Williams Says He Wanted Team to Take Him in the 2025 NFL Draft On Saturday, the Packers continued their rookie minicamp, which was comprised of the players they drafted, undrafted free agents, several players present for a tryout and some holdovers from last season. After their practice, some of the draft picks met with the media to discuss their first week with the organization. During this time, Williams, their third-round pick, revealed that the Packers were the team that he hoped would take him in the weeks leading up to the draft. “So the whole week before the draft, everybody was asking ‘If there was one team you could get picked by, who would you want to get picked by?’ I told them, ‘It’d be Green Bay, that’s where I want to go.’ So seeing those area code numbers pop up [on my phone], grinning ear to ear. Just being in Green Bay is just a dream, man.” Williams, a gadget-type wide receiver, is going to be an interesting part of the Packers offense going forward. During his final year at TCU, he put up 60 receptions for 611 yards and six touchdowns. However, he also had 51 rushing attempts for 322 yards and six more touchdowns. Obviously, the draw of Green Bay to a prospect like Williams is quarterback Jordan Love, who spreads the ball out, giving all of his targets equal opportunities to make a difference in the game. However, head coach Matt LaFleur is also well-known for his play-calling abilities, which will help a Swiss Army knife player like Williams reach his highest potential in the league.
