Nico Harrison Receives Apology Amid Luka Doncic’s Game 5 Performance
Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic entered Game 5 against the Minnesota Timberwolves averaging 30.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in the series. Despite this production, LA trails Minnesota 3-1 and is facing elimination at Crypto.com Arena.
While the lack of bench production has been an issue for JJ Redick’s team, both fans and analysts have been calling out Doncic’s defensive effort with Los Angeles on the verge of a first round exit. This conversation intensified during the first half of Wednesday’s contest, as Doncic picked up two early fouls while struggling to hold his own on the defensive end.
Several times since Doncic was traded to Los Angeles, Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison has uttered the phrase “defensive wins championships” when asked why he dealt the Slovenian superstar. While still wildly unpopular in Dallas, Harrison has been receiving apologies online amid Doncic’s first half defensive performance against Minnesota.
“I owe Nico an apology,” said one fan.
“Luka defence is awful yo, we owe Nico an apology,” wrote another.
“Luka so awful on defense dawg. Yall owe Nico Harrison an apology,” one added.
“A lot of people owe Nico Harrison an apology lmao this Luka guy is so over rated,” another wrote.

“We owe Nico Harrison an apology,” claimed another.
“Nico Harrison deserves an apology,” a fan stated.
“Get Luka off the lakers,” a fan implored. “Nico Harrison was right all along. Dude is fat out of shape doesn’t play defense, if his shots not falling it’s over.”
“Nico was right,” another wrote.
Per the NBA’s official tracking data, Timberwolves players entered Game 5 shooting 47.1% when defended by Doncic, which was the second-highest field goal percentage allowed by any Lakers starter.
