Sports doctor investigates Lakers star Luka Doncic ‘bloody knee mystery’

Luka Doncic’s health has been the subject of great attention over the past few seasons and, particularly, this season following his trade to the Los Angeles Lakers.
While much has been debated about his habits and work ethic, fans have begun to notice the frequency at which Doncic’s knees bleed through his tights during games. The ‘mystery’ continued in the Lakers’ Game 2 win vs. the Minnesota Timberwolves, which prompted Dr. Brian Sutterer, a popular sports medicine content creator, to look into the issue.
Although Sutterer obviously does not have access to Doncic’s medical records, he said that it seems unlikely that the blood on Doncic’s knee would be caused by injections or draining, a common theory among fans. Sutterer said that even though the spot on which the blood often appears is consistent with where injections would occur, the amount and consistency of blood would seemingly rule it out as being because of Doncic receiving injections or having his knee drained.
Instead, Sutterer hypothesized that Doncic’s knee blood is a result of repeated trauma to his tibial plateau.
“We call this the tibial plateau, and there’s really no muscles around this area, there’s no significant padding around this area It’s very exposed to shear injuries from trauma,” Sutterer said. “And yes, the way Luka plays, I think he is just prone to a playing style that causes this area to get repetiviely cut, torn, injured and then develop the bleeding because they’re not going to take him back in the locker room in the middle of the game and try and pull him out to do any cleaning this up.”
Doncic did suffer from injuries throughout last postseason and most of this season, but it has done little to slow him down so far in the postseason this year. In the first two games of the Lakers’ first-round series against the Timberwolves, Doncic is averaging 34 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists per game.
The Lakers will need much more of that from Doncic as the series shifts to Minneapolis and the Timberwolves attempt to take back control after losing Game 2.

Miami Heat Predicted To Land Two-Time All-Star In Proposed Trade
After the shocking firing of coach Taylor Jenkins, the Memphis Grizzlies squeaked into the playoffs as heavy underdogs against the No 1. seed Oklahoma City Thunder. Amid the Grizzlies’ woes this season, star guard Ja Morant is being floated in trade discussions this offseason. Fadeaway World proposed a trade between the Miami Heat and Grizzlies. Heat acquire: G Ja Morant, F Brandon Clarke, F John Konchar Grizzlies acquire: F Andrew Wiggins, G Terry Rozier, C Kel’el Ware, G Pelle Larsson, 2025 First-Round Pick (GSW), 2029 First-Round Pick (MIA) “If there’s any franchise built to take a risk on a talent like Ja Morant, it’s the Miami Heat,” the article wrote. “Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra have made a habit of maximizing volatile stars in a culture-first environment, and pairing Ja with Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo could form one of the league’s most unpredictable and explosive trios. Despite Morant’s off-court history, Miami has never been afraid to embrace edge, especially when it comes with 25+ points, 8+ assists, and relentless rim pressure.” The Heat are looking to make a splash after moving Jimmy Butler at the trade deadline. Acquiring Morant would establish the Heat as true Eastern Conference contenders behind a Big Three of Morant, Herro and Adebayo. New details leak about notorious Steelers draft miss as Pittsburgh may have been…
The Pittsburgh Steelers are typically a team that trusts their process during the NFL Draft. It is not often that fans will see Pittsburgh making drastic moves by shooting up the draft board, but that is what the team did in 2019. The Steelers originally held the 20th overall pick that year, but the organization made a trade with the Denver Broncos to acquire the 10th overall pick. This would be the first time Pittsburgh was picking in the top 10 of the NFL Draft since 2000, when the franchise picked wide receiver Plaxico Burress. With the 10th overall pick, the Steelers selected inside linebacker Devin Bush out of Michigan. He was considered one of the top prospects in the draft by analysts like Mel Kiper Jr., but Pittsburgh would eventually regret the selection. The organization had a need at the position, so the pick made sense in the moment, but things fell apart rather quickly for Bush in Pittsburgh. NFL insider and Broncos reporter Benjamin Allbright shared during a recent episode of “Broncos Country Tonight” that the Broncos were the ones that initiated that trade, not Pittsburgh. “The Broncos initiated that trade,” Allbright said. “That’s why it didn’t cost very much. The Broncos were willing to take significantly less; they wanted the extra pick to be able to get both [Dalton] Risner and Drew Lock in the second round, and they knew they could get to 20 and get [Noah] Fant. That was their whole plan. They took a lot less than it would normally take to move from 20 to 10.” To move up to the 10th overall pick, the Steelers had to give Denver the 20th and 52nd picks in 2019, while also giving up a third-round pick in 2020. That is not a steep price at all to move up in the first round of any draft, which maybe should have been a bit of a red flag for Pittsburgh. Typically, when a team moves up in the draft, it is the organization that is chasing a player and initiates the contact with a potential trade partner, but that wasn’t the case during the 2019 deal. Bush didn’t pan out, and the trade ultimately is not a great look for the Steelers, despite the low cost to move up in the first round. Pittsburgh was still trying to find a great inside linebacker to replace what Ryan Shazier was bringing to the defense after the former linebacker went down with a spinal injury in 2017. Bush made the All-Rookie Team in 2019, and the inside linebacker had an extremely promising rookie season. He also looked great at the start of 2020, but he then suffered a torn ACL, which caused him to miss the rest of the year. He was never the same player once he returned in 2021 and 2022, and the organization declined his fifth-year option. He wound up signing with the Seattle Seahawks in 2023, and he has been with the Cleveland Browns since 2024. Despite the cheap price of the trade, Bush is still considered a bust. Steelers Learned A Tough Lesson In 2019 The Steelers made the move in 2019, and it turned out to be a bad decision. Not only did the team’s first-round pick not work out, but the organization gave up two additional picks to land him. It was an investment that went horribly, which hopefully sticks as a lesson within that building. Kevin Colbert was the general manager at the time, and he and Mike Tomlin each gave their input on picks. The same is true now with Omar Khan, so it is unclear who is truly responsible when picks go bad.

LSU women’s basketball’s Flau’jae Johnson announces transfer portal decision
On the heels of a rough season, LSU women’s basketball star Flau’Jae Johnson made a WNBA declaration. After not committing, her future was uncertain. Luckily for the Tigers faithful, she made a special announcement via Annie Costabile of Front Office Sports. The guard declared she is returning to Baton Rouge for her final season. Johnson has been a staple in the program for the last two years. Her tenacity, festiness and balanced aggression are elements of the system. That never-say-die mentality has been so crucial for Kim Mulkey’s system. Also, Johnson has a well-rounded game as well. She averaged a career-high 18.6 points this previous season. Not to mention, in her freshman season, Johnson won the SEC Rookie of the Year. Furthermore, and most importantly, she secured the 2023 national championship alongside Angel Reese. Safe to say that the job isn’t finished for the upcoming senior guard. After Johnson signed with Unrivaled, her time in Baton Rouge isn’t done. She’ll likely want to run it back. However, she wants to prepare for the WNBA Draft. Having one more season of eligibility and being coached by Mulkey can do wonders. Despite some of the criticisms, the latter is an excellent head coach and has had a plethora of players hit the league because of it. Flau’jae Johnson can help build LSU women’s basketball One of the more impactful areas of Johnson’s game has to be her perimeter shooting. Every season, she has shown improvements, especially from the three-point range. For instance, she shot a hair over 38% on 3.8 attempts per game. Although her game is focused on slashing, that balance keeps defenses guessing. However, it’s not all about the statistics and how dominant someone is, in terms of their skill. It’s the mental side as well. Luckily for some of Mulkey’s players, she coaches with a level of grit that is uncommon. Players like Brittney Griner, DiJonai Carrington, and Angel Reese have carved out star roles in the WNBA. Whether as All-Stars or impact sixth women off the bench, their mentality is undefeated. That’s a result of Mulkey’s tenacious coaching. It may come off as crass, but she’s doing it to build these women up. This could be the same case for Johnson. She has all the skills and work ethic. Now, it is about getting that mental toughness and edge down to a tee. If that’s the case, the current LSU women’s basketball star could solidify herself as a top draft choice in 2026. A stellar senior season and a deep run in the NCAA tournament can emphasize those claims even more.
