Mavericks Owner Makes Decision as Calls Mount for Nico Harrison’s Firing
After a 120-106 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies in the Play-In Tournament, the Dallas Mavericks were officially been eliminated from NBA playoff contention. While there was hope for a playoff berth despite the consistent injury plague throughout the main rotation, Dallas was no match for Memphis, which saw double-digit scoring from six different players.
As the playoffs have begun without the Dallas Mavericks in attendance, the vitriol towards general manager Nico Harrison continues to expand. “Fire Nico” chants have been exclaimed in every Dallas home game since trading away Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, and it appears that Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont may be beginning to feel the pressure.

While Dumont has maintained his stance of support for his general manager, news has arrived that he has decided to pursue an additional executive to add some organization checks and balances.
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon joined “The Right Time with Bomani Jones” Podcast to discuss Dumont’s thinking and decisions to come.
“There are people around the [NBA] who are just like, ‘You have to fire him, that’s the only way to begin the healing process with the Mavericks fan base,’” said MacMahon. “But, Patrick Dumont is not there yet … he wants them to bring in an experienced [executive] and I think he’s realized, ‘OK, we need to have some checks and balances that weren’t in place.’”
While the Mavericks did tank after the departure of the Slovenian superstar, the majority of the rotation was dealing with injuries that kept them out for weeks if not months. Only time will tell if this version of the Mavericks can contend in a highly competitive Western Conference next season and whether Dumont chooses to keep Harrison after 2026.
