Mavericks Make Nico Harrison Announcement After Play-In Loss

Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison will face tough questions during his end-of-season press conference following the team’s lopsided 120-106 play-in loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

The team announced Harrison will hold a press conference on Monday, per Marc Stein. The press conference comes less than a week after an unconventional, invite-only media event that did not allow cameras.

“The Mavericks say GM Nico Harrison will hold his expected end-of-season press conference Monday,” Stein said. “Yet that does make you wonder (again) why Tuesday’s press event with an invite-only selection of reporters (and no cameras) was needed.

The play-in loss capped a disappointing season for Dallas, which failed to reach the postseason after making it to the NBA Finals a year ago. Harrison will likely have to face questions on the franchise’s direction following a high-profile trade that sent All-NBA guard Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Harrison has remained largely silent since the trade, even as calls for his dismissal have grown louder. In a closed-door meeting with reporters, he stood by the decision to trade Doncic, expressing no regrets.

“Part of my job is to do the best thing for the Mavericks, not only today, but also in the future, and some of the decisions I’m going to make are going to be unpopular,” . “That’s my job, and I have to stand by it.”

Meanwhile, Doncic and the Lakers kick off their playoffs on Saturday against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Doncic has averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists since being dealt to LA.
