LeBron James Sends Clear Message to JJ Redick Ahead of NBA Playoffs
The Los Angeles Lakers dominated a depleted Houston Rockets team on Friday night, 140–109, to clinch the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference with just one game remaining in the regular season.
Luka Doncic led the way with a game-high 39 points, adding nine rebounds and seven assists, while Austin Reaves contributed 23 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
With the victory, the Lakers not only recorded their 50th win of the season but also secured a divisional title in head coach JJ Redick’s first year coaching at any level. The win ensures the Lakers will have home-court advantage in the first round of the postseason for the first time since the 2012 season.
Following the achievement, Redick made his way to the podium with his hair visibly wet and joked that the team did $17,000 worth of damage to the locker room carpet while celebrating clinching a top-five seed in the West.
Lakers superstar LeBron James chimed in on Redick’s first-year success and sent a clear message ahead of the team’s final game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday.
“Man, I was going to say something but it’s useless at this point in my career!” James posted. “Anyways, more important—CONGRATULATIONS JJ on a 50-win season in the WEST & Post Season nod!”
Over the last two seasons, the Lakers have had to compete in the play-in tournament to secure a spot in the postseason. And while they’ve managed to make it work, it hasn’t proven to be a formula for lasting success—evidenced by a first-round exit last year.

Now, with an opportunity to rest next week, identify their first-round opponent—which would be the Golden State Warriors if the season ended Friday night—and prepare to open the playoffs at home, the Lakers pose a serious threat in the Western Conference.
