The Boston Red Sox have been on quite a roller-coaster ride this offseason. They made quite a few significant additions, including Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler to the starting rotation. They also added superstar infielder Alex Bregman.
However, the additions of Crochet and Buehler may be the most important of the offseason, following a slew of injuries. Three starting pitchers — Kutter Crawford, Brayan Bello, and Lucas Giolito — are all injured and unable to pitch to begin the year.
This could send Boston to the trade market to bring a starter to Fenway Park.
Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer recently pitched a blockbuster trade that would send Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcántara to the Red Sox in a three-player deal.

- Boston Red Sox receive: RHP Sandy Alcántara
- Miami Marlins receive: RF Wilyer Abreu, SS Franklin Arias (Red Sox No. 4 prospect)
“The Red Sox have already run into injury turbulence, with Brayan Bello, Kutter Crawford, and Lucas Giolito expected to begin the season on the IL. Meanwhile, newcomers Crochet and Buehler are not known for durability,” Rymer wrote. “This is just one reason to keep an eye on Boston as a potential player for Alcantara. The other is that the team has more young bats than it has space for, something the Marlins would probably be all too happy to help with.”
While Boston could be the perfect suitor for the star pitcher, this trade doesn’t feel like enough to land him.
Alcántara is a Cy Young-level pitcher with three years of team-friendly control left on his contract. Boston would most likely need to include one or two more high-ranked prospects, likely at least one pitcher, to steal the righty from the Marlins.
