Magic Johnson Sends Clear Message After LeBron James Makes NBA History
The Los Angeles Lakers continued their surge in the NBA standings on Tuesday night with a dominant 136-115 win over New Orleans. The victory was L.A.’s 19th in its last 23 games. The Lakers are riding a seven-game win streak heading into their matchup with the New York Knicks on Thursday.
Tuesday night’s game also featured a little history from Luka Doncic and LeBron James. James entered the game with 49,999 career points, and it didn’t take long for him to reach 50,000, becoming the only player in NBA history to surpass that milestone. He did it in style, tallying a team-high 34 points, while Doncic added 30 points and 15 assists.
Following the win and James’ performance, Lakers legend and NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson sent a clear message to James on his milestone.
“Congratulations to the King LeBron James for becoming the only player in NBA history to score 50,000 regular season and playoff points!” Johnson posted on X.
James has continued to defy all odds at 40 years old. He is coming off a stellar month for which he earned Western Conference Player of the Month honors. He averaged more than 29 points per game in February. He is the oldest player to receive that recognition, and it seems he’s powering a team that has serious championship aspirations.

The Lakers are in second place in the Western Conference, but they’ve been the best team in the NBA since the trade deadline. At 39-21, they’ve navigated the growing pains that came with the addition of Doncic. They’re hitting their stride at the perfect time, with 22 games remaining in the regular season.
