Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban reveals glaring issue about Luka Doncic trade

Dallas Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban revealed the glaring issue with the organization’s shocking trade of Luka Doncic. It’s clear that the former majority owner of the Mavs has a much smaller role with the franchise now.

And it looks like Cuban had very little say in general manager Nico Harrison’s blockbuster deal that landed Dallas star power forward Anthony Davis. That move, however, came at a massive cost, and the Mavericks and Lakers seem to have gone in different directions since this move.

In an interview with WFAA, Cuban reflected on the most shocking trade in NBA history and whether he was upset about it.

“Yeah, of course (I was upset). And I’ve said this before: if the Mavs are going to trade Luka, that’s one thing. Just get a better deal. No disrespect to Anthony Davis, but I still firmly believe this would be a different conversation if we had gotten four unprotected first-round picks and Anthony Davis and Max Christie.”

Cuban then went on to answer the question of whether he would ever have traded Luka Doncic.

“I’m not going go there, it doesn’t even matter. It doesn’t matter…You’re going to make mistakes. I think the biggest challenge that the Mavs have right now is that there’s nobody that’s really going out there to communicate. And it’s not so much what you do; it’s how you communicate about why you do what you do.”

Dallas Mavericks fans have had a rough couple of weeks since this trade

It’s been a difficult few weeks for Mavs fans since this trade. The move was supposed to be a commitment by the franchise to winning in the immediate future. Anthony Davis, however, quickly went down with a serious injury, followed by Kyrie Irving, who is now out for the season with a torn ACL.

Meanwhile, the Lakers are 8-2 with Luka Doncic in the lineup and the current No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. Mark Cuban seems frustrated by all this news, and it’s not hard to imagine why.

While things could eventually get better for Dallas, finding success this year is going to be very difficult with Irving now sidelined. And with both Kyrie and AD in their 30s, the clock is ticking as their respective primes wind down.

It didn’t have to be like this, but this is the situation the Dallas Mavericks are in right now. Not all is lost, but it’s fair to say that the immediate future looks bleak over the next few months as this trade hangs over the franchise for the foreseeable future.
