Alabama football offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb started answering the question with one word.

How would he describe his style as a play caller?

“Aggressive,” Grubb immediately answered. Then he explained further.

“We’re going to be aggressive,” Grubb continued. “We want guys to … I think that when the players, when it works the best, the understanding that the players have that we got to be responsible with the football, not go backwards, make sure we’re always matriculating the ball down the field, but then be ready for an opportunity to take the shot.”

Grubb has taken his play calling style everywhere from Sioux Falls and Fresno State to Washington and the Seattle Seahawks. Grubb, decided to become Alabama’s offensive coordinator for the 2025 season. The Seattle Seahawks fired him after the 2024 season, his lone season in the NFL, and that opened the door for Grubb to return to work with Kalen DeBoer.

 so it’s not yet known with whom he will be “aggressive” calling plays. Ty Simpson, Austin Mack and Keelon Russell are in the mix for the opening this spring.

Alabama completed its second spring practice Wednesday. Spring practices will run through A-Day on Saturday, April 12.
