Mavericks Considered Potential Suitors for Kevin Durant This Summer
The Dallas Mavericks have been at the forefront of all things NBA lately, and not for good reason.
The team decided that Luka Dončić was damaged goods and traded him away to the Los Angeles Lakers at the age of 25. The Mavericks believed he could not be a player to rely on long-term.
It’s safe to say that the Mavericks completed one of the most shocking and stunning trades of all time. Time will tell, but what is done is done, and the page has flipped, and they will look to compete for a title without him.
Dallas has the tools to do just that this season, as they received Anthony Davis in return for Doncic. On paper, the Mavericks have a squad that can compete with anybody, but that squad could get even better this summer.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, NBA All-Star and future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant knows the Phoneix Suns will trade him this summer.
That said, the Mavericks are reportedly a team that could make a move for Durant this summer.
Windhorst was echoing his earlier report on Durant’s future with the Suns after he remained in Phoenix through the trade deadline.
The two-time NBA champion recently appeared on the Draymond Green Show. When asked if he wanted to stay in Phoenix ahead of his eventual retirement, Durant said he wanted to end his career “on my terms,” and had no interest in being traded during the season.
“We just play the season out and if that’s the decision you want to make in the offseason then you figure it out,” Durant said. “It’s just such a big change to make and I’ve been through it before I was like damn that’s not really it. If I can stop it then why not?”
“A player like me costs a lot…When I get to your team and that’s a lot of work through the season like I’m still of value, especially with my contract and just my production that me just getting up and moving in the middle of season, it’s going to be a big blow to any team I’m going.”
The writing is on the wall for Durant and the Suns.
The end is near for the two teams and it would be a shock if he is still wearing a Suns jersey at the start of the 2025-26 season.
The 2014 NBA MVP will be in the last year of his contract in 2025-26.
