The former five-star recruit was considered a candidate to enter the transfer portal after averaging 2.9 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks in just 7.5 minutes per game. However, the 19-year-old will stay with John Calipari’s Wildcats next season.
Collins last played double-digit minutes in a game on New Year’s Eve and didn’t see any court time during Kentucky’s stunning first-round NCAA tournament loss to No. 15 Saint Peter’s. However, the 6’9″, 202-pound forward remains a promising prospect with sky-high potential.
Jai Lucas, the Kentucky assistant coach who recruited Collins from Atlanta, Texas, gushed over the big man’s upside to
“He has a special ceiling,” Lucas said of Collins. “He can be a lot of things, and that’s the most exciting part about him. He can mold himself into really anything. His ceiling is whatever he wants to make it, and he has that work ethic to make it happen.”
With a 7’5″ wingspan and 42-inch vertical leap, Tucker wrote that Collins “looks and acts like a Pogo Stick, never on the ground long, bounding higher with every bounce.”
Collins will be an intriguing player to watch next season with the ability to carve out a far bigger role on Calipari’s squad.
