John Spytek Lands Next Mike Evans in Latest Raiders Mock Draft
The Las Vegas Raiders have entered a new era this offseason with Pete Carroll and John Spytek as their new head coach and general manager tandem. While these two men have extensive track records of success in the NFL, there is a sense that the Raiders may need a little bit more time to build things the right way.
Many want the organization to draft a quarterback in the first round of April’s draft, and there is no reason to believe that they would choose not to if given a chance. But NFL.com’s Gennaro Filice in which such a scenario is not possible and Spytek opts for Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan at No. 6 instead.
In Filice’s mock draft, the Raiders choose to stay at No. 6 instead of trading up for a potential franchise quarterback and they get leap-frogged by the New York Jets. This decision by New York triggers Las Vegas to select a player that will remind Spytek, who was a longtime executive for the Buccaneers, of wide receiver Mike Evans.
“After watching the Jets vault right over them to secure Shedeur Sanders’ services, the Raiders shift from passer to pass catcher, landing the big-bodied target who appears to be separating himself from the rest of this WR class,” wrote Filice. “Las Vegas is obviously set at tight end with the highly drafted duo of Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer, but the receiver room is headlined by Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker.”
Las Vegas certainly needs help in the pass-catching department as Meyers is the only legitimate threat at wide receiver. McMillan recorded over 2,700 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns in his last two seasons at Arizona and is as pro-ready of a prospect as you’ll see. He was an All-American in his final college season and should be ready to contribute on day one, no matter who is under center for the Raiders.
