The Dallas Mavericks made their plan abundantly clear when they dealt 25-year-old superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for 31-year-old All-Star Anthony Davis, which is to win a championship in the next three to four years.

To accomplish that goal, the Mavericks could surprisingly add a third superstar to the mix this offseason. It’s well documented that Irving and Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant have a strong relationship, but their time together on the Brooklyn Nets didn’t go as planned. If the Mavericks are able to land Durant in a blockbuster trade this offseason, not only could it boost their title odds but also encourage Irving to stay in Dallas.

This is exactly what FanSided predicts will happen, as they named the Mavs a strong destination for the 36-year-old forward.

“Looking across the league to find teams that would theoretically be interested in pursuing Kevin Durant during the offseason, you can’t help but wonder if the Dallas Mavericks could be one of the teams in the conversation,” FanSided’s Michael Saenz wrote.

The Mavericks would need to send out a package highlighted by Klay Thompson, P.J. Washington, and draft capital. It’s unclear which route the Suns are taking if they deal Durant, but assuming a rebuild is their preferred route, sophomore center Dereck Lively II could very well be involved.

“In theory, a trio of Kyrie Irving, KD, and Anthony Davis would make a ton of sense for Dallas. It’d be a great basketball fit if the Mavs could figure out how to make it work. But that’s where the problem lies – trying to make the money work all around while also putting together a package that the Phoenix Suns would seriously consider accepting,” Saenz concluded.

A Big Three of Durant, Davis, and Irving would immediately vault the Mavericks to being a favorite to come out on top in the loaded Western Conference.
