Dodgers Named ‘Best Fit’ For Astros’ Alex Bregman in Potential Shocking Blockbuster Move
The Los Angeles Dodgers have had a spectacular offseason so far.
Bringing in Cy-Young award winners, international phenoms, Gold Glove winners, and All-Stars among their many deals, they may not be done quite yet. Fans have been more than thrilled with the current moves the team has made to expand upon the franchise’s eighth World Series ring, but could there be one more big move in them?
ESPN’s MLB insider appears to think so, as he named the Dodgers as one of the ‘best fits’ for the final remaining superstar free agent.
Two-time All-Star infielder Alex Bregman is still a free agent. Obviously any member of the 2017 Houston Astros roster is a sworn enemy of Dodgers fans, but the best — and only — way to get back in the good graces of the fandom is to get back that lost ring.
Perhaps stolen is a better word here than lost.
Schoenfield detailed a few reasons why this unlikely pairing may actually work out in L.A.
The first example, is that the current Dodgers third baseman in Max Muncy is only on the books for another year as he has a team option at the end of 2026. Additionally, the newest Dodgers defensive specialist in four-time Korean Baseball Organization Gold-Glove winner Hyeseong Kim is not known for his power hitting.
The move makes sense when thinking a season or two past 2025, but the Dodgers don’t have a clear and urgent need to pull the trigger on another blockbuster this offseason.
Another power bat would always be welcomed, but especially with the Houston background of Bregman, this is unlikely to be a risk the Dodgers feel they need take.
Bregman will be 31 within the first month of the MLB year, but certainly put up numbers that would spell success in a Dodgers uniform.
He finished the 2024 campaign with a batting average of .260, 26 home runs, 75 RBIs, and a WAR of 4.1.
However, Bregman’s role on the 2017 Astros will never be forgotten by Dodgers fans — and at the end of the day, Bregman is far from a need on this World Series caliber roster.
