Deion Sanders Sends Final Message on Cowboys Job Before Super Bowl LIX
While the Dallas Cowboys have agreed to terms with their newest head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, the idea of Colorado Buffaloes head coach and former NFL star Deion Sanders becoming the organization’s next head coach never really slowed down.
However, on Friday in New Orleans, after attending the NFL Honors, Sanders appeared on ESPN’s “First Take” and shared his stance on his current role as a coach, especially with his sons Shedeur and Shilo preparing for the NFL draft in April.
“It was intriguing,” Sanders said when discussing conversations with Jerry Jones. “Jerry sat right behind me last night, and we just hugged and embraced and laughed our butts off because we knew what was behind the curtain. Now, I did think about it, but I think at this point in time, I’m called to the college game. I’m called to the young men, I’m called to those cities, those towns, those communities-that’s who I’m called for to make an impact at this stage and age in my life.”
Sanders burst onto the college scene after spending three seasons at Jackson State, where he found immense success in the FCS, going 27-6, winning two consecutive SWAC championships, and making two appearances in the Celebration Bowl.
Now, he enters his third season in Boulder with Colorado after leading them to a bowl game for the first time since 2020, finishing as one of the top-ranked teams in the Big 12. He is also expected to send multiple players to the NFL this offseason, with Shedeur and Travis Hunter both likely to go within the top five.
Many have speculated that Sanders should make the leap to the NFL to coach the Cowboys or the Las Vegas Raiders, but it seems he is very content where he is right now-building and restoring the Buffaloes program from the ground up.
