Report: Lakers Have Had Trade Talks With Rockets About Steven Adams

According to NBA insider Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Los Angeles Lakers have had trade talks with the Houston Rockets about Steven Adams.
The Lakers need a center after trading Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks for Luka Doncic.
“League sources say the Lakers have had talks with Houston about 31-year-old big man Steven Adams (who is on an expiring deal worth $12.6 million),” Amick wrote. “And while the two sides have been significantly apart, with no signs that a deal will actually get done, those talks offers some clarity as to what Pelinka has been thinking here.
“League sources say the Lakers have been attempting to use the contracts of Gabe Vincent ($11 million this season, $11.5 million next) and Maxi Kleber ($11 million this season; $11 million next season) in this pursuit. One significant hurdle, however, is that Kleber (who came to the Lakers in the Dončić deal) can only be traded in a one-for-one deal rather than being aggregated. Conceivably, that takes options like Atlanta big man Clint Capela (who is on an expiring deal worth $22.2 million) off the board.”
Adams is averaging 3.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists this season while shooting 58.1% from the field. He’s arguably the strongest player in the NBA.
“We know we have a need for a big,” Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said at Doncic’s introductory press conference. “The market for bigs right now, leading into the last two or three days of the trade deadline, is very dry. There’s just not a lot available. So maybe we’ll be able to do some stuff around the margins.
“I would say, in terms of a big move for that position, it’s probably more realistic that that would be something that comes in the offseason. But Luka will be at the center of that, as we build for the long term.”
Along with Adams, the Lakers have been linked to Nic Claxton, Robert Williams III and Jakob Poeltl.

Lakers’ Trade Interest in $31 Million Veteran Revealed
The Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks kicked off a wild NBA trade deadline season by exchanging Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis in a massive three-team deal with the Utah Jazz. The trade sent shockwaves throughout the NBA, and as a result, plenty of rumors are flying around. The Lakers are still active in trade discussions, especially with their need to add a center to replace Davis. On Tuesday, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype dropped his latest intel less than 48 hours before the official deadline. In it, he had the Lakers as one of a few teams expressing interest in Charlotte Hornets swingman Cody Martin. “Charlotte Hornets swingman Cody Martin has received trade interest from several teams, including the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Denver Nuggets, league sources told HoopsHype.” In the 2022 offseason, the Hornets signed Martin to a four-year contract worth just over $31 million. Now, he is drawing trade interest from several contenders, including the Lakers. The Hornets are 12-35 as of Tuesday, which is second worst in the Eastern Conference and third worst in the NBA. So, moving Martin for some sort of asset makes sense given his contract. As Scotto mentions, Martin is owed just over $8 million this year. On the other hand, he has a non-guaranteed contract worth $8.68 million for next season, which could make it even more appealing for contending teams. Martin last played on January 24 against the Portland Trail Blazers, and Martin was ruled out for Tuesday’s game with a sports hernia. Still, teams are inquiring about the veteran swingman, and it’s just another name the Lakers are tied to during this trade season.

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll has already done what Antonio Pierce and Josh…
Over the last half-decade and even more, the Las Vegas Raiders have had one playoff season, and even then, they failed to win the postseason game. They have yet to win a postseason game in over 20 years, and yet, they continue to put together bad regimes. Does this time feel different? The Las Vegas Raiders have hired Pete Carroll as their head coach, which is as good a hire as they have had in a long time. He won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks over the Denver Broncos and lost another one to the New England Patriots. They hired John Spytek as their general manager. Spytek played a role in bringing Tom Brady to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, won a Super Bowl with the Broncos and Bucs, and drafted and developed an elite roster in Tampa over the last few years. So, yes, this time does feel a bit different. And, it helps that the two are working together so well already. In fact, Pete Carroll is already doing what the last two predecessors — Antonio Pierce and Josh McDaniels — failed to do. Raiders’ Pete Carroll has already assembled best staff With the Las Vegas Raiders bringing back defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, defensive line coach Rob Leonard and signing Chip Kelly as the offensive coordinator, and all the other staff changes and retentions they have made, the Raiders are finally set up to have an elite staff. They have not had an elite staff under the previous two regimes. They have had an elite defensive staff, but both sides make up the staff as a whole. And, they have had offensive staff members get fired during the season in both regimes This time around, they have experienced, well-proven staffers. The Raiders have established themselves as a team that has a staff that knows how to win. This is different, and this is all Pete Carroll and John Spytek’s doing.

NHL insider hints at why J.T. Miller took a leave of absence earlier this season
The J.T. Miller saga may finally be over in Vancouver, but now it appears we’re getting closer to finding out exactly what happened that forced him to take a leave of absence, with speculation now running wild about the reason behind all of it. After months and months of speculation, J.T. Miller was finally traded by the Vancouver Canucks, and with it, the hopes in the organization that the drama is now finally over. With that comes potential answers on why things got so ugly towards the end, with Elliotte Friedman recently hinting that something may have happened after a matchup with the Nashville Predators that forced Miller into a leave. “They had the Nashville game and whatever happened after that game, and I’ve heard a couple of different versions, and nobody will confirm it so I’m not gonna say it. But whatever the case was J.T. Miller went on his leave.” Unfortunately, that didn’t change much for Vancouver, and when things didn’t improve upon his return, the organization was convinced that they needed to officially make a change, which they ultimately did as he was traded to the New York Rangers. “When Miller came back from his leave things just didn’t get better in terms of the relationship and the stress and things like that. I think everybody hoped he would come back and things would change and they didn’t. I think that was when the decision was made… that they were gonna move on.” It’s unclear if we will ever find out exactly what happened, as forcing a player into a leave of absence sounds like a big deal, but with the details not officially confirmed by sources, right now it’s pure speculation from Friedman and his sources, with fans likely to make up their own minds about what happened.

Did Detroit Red Wings just throw shade at Derek Lalonde after sixth straight win?
The Detroit Red Wings have made an amazing turnaround under Todd McLellan, and now players are opening up on how different things have been since that move. In late December, the Detroit Red Wings fired Derek Lalonde and replaced him with veteran Todd McLellan, and it’s turned out to be one of the best moves made by general manager Steve Yzerman. Since that point, the team has gone 14-4-1, with its latest overtime victory over the Vancouver Canucks showing just how much the Red Wings have turned things around, as Alex DeBrincat noted that he was excited for the team to start winning games, even when they aren’t at their best. “We’re feeling good. We’re able to win games that maybe isn’t our best performance,” DeBrincat said, via the Hockey News. On top of that, he seemingly called out former coach LaLonde in the process too, noting that a fresh start was needed, with the team clearly feeling it under their new coach as they are now back into a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. “It’s great. I think we knew we had it in this room, I think we needed a bit of a fresh start and kind of a restart. It feels like a new season. We’re winning games where maybe we haven’t played our best and that’s what good teams do. We have to keep that up.” When told about the team being back in a wild-card spot, veteran forward Patrick Kane was thrilled, as he too notes that they continue to find ways to win, even when things aren’t going exactly according to plan. “That’s awesome. I knew we were one point out coming in, so — big win. It wasn’t the prettiest, but huge win for the team. We’re finding ways to win right now.” There’s still plenty of season left in 2025 before the Stanley Cup playoff, but right now, things are looking good for Detroit. With Todd McLellan leading the way, it appears everyone is optimistic of a return to the postseason after eight long years away.
