Myles Garrett’s trade request from Browns gives Steelers fans the last laugh
Get your popcorn ready! It’s time to watch the drama in Cleveland unfold.
It was an eventful way to start the week for football fans. After the Senior Bowl and Pro Bowl games, we thought we were in for a dry spell before the start of the free agency period we were wrong. On February 3, Myles Garrett requested a trade from the Browns. As Steelers fans, we can’t help but sit back and smirk as this whole thing unfolds.pk ya
Ian Rapoport dropped the news on his X account on Monday—sharing Garrett’s full statement and the official request.
Garrett, the 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year and 2024 DPOY finalist, had had a Hall of Fame-level career to date with the Cleveland Browns. Entering the 2017 NFL Draft as the first-overall pick, Garrett has been every bit as good as advertised—which makes this all the more painful for Browns fans.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Network insists the Browns are ‘sticking to their stance’ and do not intend to trade their All-Pro pass rusher.
After witnessing how disastrous the Deshaun Watson trade was, the Browns have to live through another nightmare with one of their all-time greatest players requesting a trade from an organization that has no shot at competing for a championship.
This is a bitter-sweet moment for Steelers fans.
Steelers fans get the last laugh in Myles Garrett saga
While it’s hard to say whether the Browns will be forced to move on from Garrett, Steelers fans can only laugh at the situation at hand in Cleveland. For years, we’ve had to hear from the Browns’ fanbase how much better Garrett is than T.J. Watt (who also entered the 2017 draft as a first-round pick).
Since then, these two players have been compared. It’s even fair to say that Garrett has, collectively, been the better player over the past two seasons.
But one thing Watt would never do is bail on his team and force his way out of Pittsburgh. That’s more than can be said of Garrett, thanks to his recent trade request. As badly as Watt wants to win a Super Bowl, he wants to do it as a member of the Steelers, and he’s been very clear he has no intentions of leaving.
Not every star player has to start and finish their career with the team they were drafted by, but loyalty counts for something. I don’t blame Myles Garrett for wanting out of a bad franchise that can’t seem to do anything right, but T.J. Watt would never do what Garrett just did. Steelers fans can be grateful for that.
