Dodgers Would Land $33 Million 2-Time All-Star in 3-Player Trade Prediction

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been quite active this winter on the heels of winning their second World Series since 2020. After making several significant acquisitions, could president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman find a way to land shortstop Bo Bichette from the Toronto Blue Jays?

At first glance, it doesn’t seem like there’s a ton of room to fit a player like Bichette on the Dodgers’ roster. FanGraphs’ Roster Resource has Mookie Betts at shortstop, Hyeseong Kim at second base, and Max Muncy at third base. However, things can change quickly because of potential injuries that occur throughout the course of a season.

Jim Riley of Ballcap Sports evaluated the following hypothetical trade proposal that would send Bichette to Hollywood:

    • Dodgers receive: shortstop Bo Bichette
    • Blue Jays receive: right-handed pitchers Michael Grove and Dustin May

“Michael Grove is really the significant piece here because Michael Grove is also the piece with the longest runway,” Riley said. “Dustin May, I believe we’re in the final year of arbitration. So, that’s — I hate to say it — but May is kind of the throw-in to get the deal done if you want a Bo Bichette.”

Ultimately, Riley thinks this is the kind of move the Blue Jays would want to make. Grove is entering his age-28 campaign in 2025. He won’t be eligible for arbitration until next winter and isn’t scheduled to reach free agency until 2029.

Bichette had a rough 2024 that included a .598 OPS with four home runs, 31 RBI, and 29 runs scored in just 81 games played. However, the two-time All-Star put together three straight years of 20-plus homers and 30-plus doubles between 2021 and 2023. He’s set to earn $17.583 million this season, which is the final campaign of a three-year, $33.6 million extension.
