The Boston Red Sox right now.

Boston is in an intriguing spot this offseason. The Red Sox did make positive strides in 2023 but were unable to make their way back to the postseason. Boston won just 78 games for the second straight year and now needs to go back to the drawing board.

The Red Sox’s biggest roster question mark certainly is the starting rotation but Boston will need to add depth across the roster. The Red Sox got a head start on adding depth and reportedly re-signed reliever Wyatt Mills, according to Beyond the Monster’s Chris Henrique.

“Red Sox sign Wyatt Mills to a minor league deal, per the transactions page,” Henrique said.

Mills was selected in the third round of the 2017 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft by the Seattle Mariners and eventually made his big league debut with the club in 2021. He made 11 appearances with the Mariners in 2021 and compiled a 9.95 ERA. He made 27 overall appearances with the Mariners and the Kansas City Royals in 2022 and logged a 4.60 ERA.

The 28-year-old was traded to the Red Sox ahead of the 2023 season but was unable to take the mound in a game due to an elbow injury. He eventually underwent Tommy John surgery to fix the issue.

Mills by Boston and entered free agency but now will re-join the organization at the minor league level with a chance of making his way back to the big leagues. It’s unclear exactly what role he will play but if he is healthy, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see him at Fenway Park at some point next year.
