NBA Makes Historic Kevin Durant Announcement
Kevin Durant had quite an unforgettable Saturday. Not only did he witness his favorite NFL team, the Washington Commanders, beat the Detroit Lions to reach the NFC Championship Game. The Phoenix Suns star himself made history when he took the court earlier in the day.
The Suns forward led his team to a narrow 125-121 win over the Detroit Pistons, finishing with 36 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and three blocks in 38 minutes of action. He made eight of his 12 free-throw attempts and shot 48.1 percent from the field in a highly efficient performance.
With his production from the charity stripe, Durant climbed the NBA’s leaderboard for the most free throws made. He entered the game with 7,156 free throws made in his career, needing just five to surpass NBA legend Jerry West (7,160) for the ninth spot.
After the game, Durant is now at 7,164 free throws made.
“Congrats to @KDTrey5 of the @Suns for moving into 9th all-time in FREE THROWS MADE!” the NBA announced on X to highlight Durant’s achievement.
Kevin Durant is currently averaging 5.5 free throws per game this 2024-25 season. After his latest accomplishment, he’s just 76 free throws behind Dirk Nowitzki for the eighth spot and 163 behind Michael Jordan for the seventh spot.
With 41 games left on the season, Durant is well on track to surpass both Nowitzki and Jordan in the all-time free throws list. Of course, that is if he plays the Suns’ remaining games.
Whatever the case may be, though, Durant is more than capable of cracking the Top 5 list when he’s done in his NBA career.
