Mets Predicted To Make Blockbuster Trade For $108 Million Ace From AL Contender

Recently, the New York Mets were reportedly told the bad news that they were out of the Roki Sasaki sweepstakes. Sasaki has reportedly narrowed his search down to three teams, not including the Mets.

As a result, the Mets are going to need to pivot to another ace to place atop their rotation.

James Nolan of FanSided recently predicted the Mets would swing a blockbuster trade for Seattle Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo. In the deal, Nolan suggested the Mets would send infielder Ronny Mauricio back to Seattle in a one-for-one trade.

“New York has an abundance of intriguing prospects, and the Seattle Mariners are rumored to be interested in trading Luis Castillo,” Nolan wrote. “One Mets prospect who is MLB-ready is Ronny Mauricio. Castillo’s trade value isn’t as high as Seattle thought, so acquiring a prospect like Mauricio would be a great return. The three-time All-Star starting pitcher’s strikeout rate declined in 2024, but he still put together a great season.

“Across 30 starts last season, Castillo posted a 3.64 ERA. Since 2022, he holds a 3.34 ERA. The 32-year-old rarely gets injured, as he’s only pitched less than 150 innings twice throughout his eight-year career.”

This trade would benefit both sides. The Mariners would clear a lot of money off their books by moving Castillo. They would also land a young infielder who has a lot of promise and potential.

The Mets would land a bona fide ace to place atop their rotation. Castillo would be the top dog in a rotation that a lot of people are questioning.
