Dodgers $80 Million World Series Hero Could Betray LA, Sign With NL Club
The New York Mets may be the winners of the offseason based on their signing of superstar Juan Soto. Besides Soto, the Mets have added a few other players, but nothing specifically jumps off the page.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan recently reported on the Mets’ offseason and their roster needs. Passan pointed out before the offseason ends.
“The Mets are still talking about adding an outfielder. And relievers. And a starter. The Winter of Soto is still cooking,” Passan wrote.

As Passan states, the Mets are still looking for a starting pitcher this winter. They’ve already added a few pitchers, but they haven’t been the top of the rotation arms that New York may need.
The Mets could change that very quickly by acquiring the best right-handed pitcher left in free agency: Los Angeles Dodgers righty Jack Flaherty.
Flaherty spent half the 2024 season with the Detroit Tigers before being dealt to the Dodgers at the trade deadline. He was excellent with both clubs before being the Dodgers’ ace for the postseason run. The righty was an integral piece to the Dodgers’ 2024 World Series championship.
He’s projected to per Jon Heyman of the New York Post, which doesn’t put him outside of the Mets’ spending range. His actual deal will likely be close to $100 million.
He would give the Mets a stable starter at the top of their rotation. Most of the Mets’ pitching staff is made up of reclamation projects so adding a starter like Flaherty would be a huge add.
