Red Sox Predicted To Sign $200 Million Star To Pair With Rafael Devers

Red Sox Predicted To Sign $200 Million Star To Pair With Rafael Devers

One of the most intriguing storylines left this winter is the free agency sweepstakes of Houston Astros infielder Alex Bregman.

The Astros and the New York Yankees were two of the favorites to sign Bregman, but they’ve seemingly dropped out of the race. The Detroit Tigers, New York Mets, and Boston Red Sox all make sense as well.

R.J. Anderson of CBS Sports believes it’ll be , doing so with their willingness to spend more than the Tigers. Bregman is reportedly looking for a $200 million deal in free agency, which the Red Sox may have to pay to land him.

“He’s been linked to several clubs throughout the winter, including the Yankees, Tigers, and Red Sox. (The Astros too, of course, but Houston has since added Isaac Paredes and Christian Walker to man the corner infield positions.),” Anderson wrote. “I predicted that Bregman would sign a six-year pact worth $162 million back in November; he’s reportedly since declined a six-year offer from the Astros worth $156 million that suggests he’s aiming even higher. I’m more confident in Boston’s willingness to spend than Detroit’s, and that’s a reasonable determiner if you ask me.”

The addition of Bregman would be huge for the Red Sox. Boston has hugely added to its starting rotation, yet it hasn’t spent much money at this point. The Red Sox have the money to pursue Bregman and they should do it.

As a result, Rafael Devers would slide over to first base. First baseman Triston Casas would either rotate between first base and designated hitter or he could be used as a trade chip. Either way, it would be a huge addition to Boston.
