Report: Pete Carroll wants back in the NFL to coach… Da Bears?!
The Seattle Seahawks are set to play the Chicago Bears, or to put it another way, Pete Carroll’s former team against Pete Carroll’s new team?
reported on Wednesday that Carroll has expressed interest in the vacant Bears head coaching position. Chicago canned Matt Eberflus making him the first head coach the Bears have ever fired midseason.
We’ve not heard much from Carroll since the Seahawks . Carroll told KJR that he’s going to teach a class at USC next spring,
Of course, interest isn’t always mutual. The top head coaching candidate at the moment is probably Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who could be seen as the perfect match for quarterback Caleb Williams. On the other hand, maybe the Bears would be interested given how many former Seahawks coaches and players they’ve taken in, including Shane Waldron (okay, bad example), Kerry Joseph, Darrell Taylor, Travis Homer, Jacob Martin, and Jake Curhan.
At the moment, the Bears, New York Jets (whom Carroll coached for one season back in 1994), and New Orleans Saints are the current head coach vacancies. There will definitely be other firings coming at the end of the regular season, so there may be opportunities for the 73-year-old Carroll to return to the sidelines, whether in Chicago or somewhere else.
