Report: Phillies Acquire Jesús Luzardo from Marlins
A new arm under the Xmas tree
Per Robert Murray of Fansided, the Phillies have made a trade with Miami to acquire LHP Jesús Luzardo.
Craig Mish added that the Phillies sent shortstop Starlyn Caba and outfielder Emaarion Boyd in exchange.
Luzardo, who made his MLB debut in 2019 with the Athletics, has a career ERA of 4.29. He posted an ERA of 5.00 in an injury-shortened 2024; a down season after putting up ERAs of 3.32 and 3.58 in 2022 and 2023. But he has plenty of upside.
Per MLB’s prospect rankings, Caba was the 4th-ranked prospect in the Phillies system and Boyd was the 23rd.
Update: per Matt Gelb, the Phillies also acquired catcher Paul McIntosh in the deal. McIntosh, 27, spent 2024 with the AA Pensacola Blue Wahoos.
