Blockbuster Cardinals-Dodgers Trade Pitch Sends Two All-Stars To Los Angeles

The St. Louis Cardinals are looking into the idea of a rebuild this winter. As a part of this rebuild, they could look to deal two of their best players, Ryan Helsley and Nolan Arenado.

Both of these talented stars would require a significant prospect package in return, but it’s difficult to gauge a player’s value in the offseason.

FanSided’s Curt Bishop has pitched a trade idea that would dump both these Cardinals All-Stars. However, this trade may be a nightmare scenario for the entire league because Bishop suggests the Cardinals could deal Helsley and Arenado to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Here’s the full trade pitched by Bishop:

    • Los Angeles Dodgers receive: RHP Ryan Helsley, 3B Nolan Arenado
    • St. Louis Cardinals receive: C/OF Daulton Rushing (No. 1 prospect), RHP Nick Frasso (No. 12 prospect), INF/OF Austin Gauthier (No. 24 prospect)

“For this trade to work, the Cardinals would have to eat a little bit of Arenado’s contract. He’s got three years and $74 million left on the deal, and he’s simply not that kind of player anymore,” Bishop wrote. “But if he and Helsley are packaged together, St. Louis could still get a haul of prospects in exchange that are close to Major League-ready.”

The first thing to note is that there’s absolutely no way the Cardinals would ever do this deal. Bishop also suggests the Cardinals eat a portion of Arenado’s contract.

While the Cardinals are likely to eat a chunk of Arenado’s remaining contract, they wouldn’t do it for this return.

Rushing is a great prospect, but he’s the only top-10 prospect in this deal. Frasso and Gauthier are both talented players, but they wouldn’t garner this kind of return.

St. Louis would require two or three more prospects with multiple of them being top ten talents to deal both All-Stars to one place.

There’s even a possibility that St. Louis refuses to deal both All-Stars to the Dodgers because it would make them too talented. Baseball is a business at the end of the day.
