It was a big day for redshirt sophomore Alex McPherson. It was his return to action after being sidelined for months due to a gastrointestinal issue that took a major toll on the kicker’s body.
McPherson has been cleared to play for several games, but it was only after the combination of a great practice for the kicker and freshman Towns McGough’s struggles of late that made head coach Hugh Freeze give McPherson the go-ahead while still acknowledging that he is not yet back at 100 percent. For McPherson, the accomplishment means everything after a long road to recovery.
“Man, it was just awesome,” McPherson said postgame, per Auburn Undercover. “After all the hard times and the tough work we’ve put in to get back to where I am now, it was just so awesome to be able to go out there and play with my guys again. I can’t thank my O-line enough, and Oscar (Chapman) and Reed (Hughes) for how much they do for me. Just my family, how much they’ve supported me through everything that’s gone on — my fiancee. It’s just been a long road, and it was awesome to finally see it come to fruition today.”
