Yankees reach decision on manager Aaron Boone’s future

    By Jake Nisse

The Yankees have reportedly reached a decision on the future of manager Aaron Boone following the team’s devastating World Series loss to the Dodgers.

LA clinched the series in five games on Wednesday night as they pulled off a comeback from 5-0 down to earn a 7-6 win in front of the home fans in New York.

And while Boone has been the subject of criticism this series, he is expected back as the team’s manager next year, according to SNY.

The site noted that the Yankees hold a contract option for Boone next year, so an extension could follow this offseason so Boone is not operating as a ‘lame duck.’

Furthermore, the report said that – prior to the postseason – Boone would likely have to win at least two rounds in the postseason to keep his job.

article imageHe of course did that as the Yankees captured the American League pennant before losing to the Dodgers.

While Boone’s star player Aaron Judge hit just .222 in the World Series (and an even-worse .184 overall in the postseason), the manager came under fire for his decision to play Nestor Cortes in the 10th inning of a high-leverage Game 1.

With the Yankees leading 3-2 and needing just two more outs for the win, Boone turned to Cortes on the mound, despite the fact he hadn’t pitched since September 18.

The move quickly backfired as Cortes allowed a walk-off Grand Slam to Freddie Freeman.

According to SNY, the decision to bring Cortes into that game was viewed inside the Yankees organization as a ‘close decision that could have gone either way.’

This postseason represented Boone’s best result in his seven years as Yankees manager, but he’ll be looking to help the Bronx Bombers go one further next season.
