The deal confirmed : Bears Sign Former Packers Prospect as First Showdown Approaches

The Chicago Bears are coming out of their bye week to face the Washington Commanders on Sunday. Through the first seven weeks of the season, the Bears are exactly where they want to be. Despite a slow start, the offense eventually clicked with Caleb Williams under center and the Bears look like a formidable team in the NFC North with a 4-2 record.

One of the quirks of the Bears’ schedule this season is that they don’t have a division game until Week 11 when they host the Packers. No matter what Chicago’s record is until then, the games between the division rivals will play a huge part in who makes the playoffs, especially considering how competitive the NFC North is.

Before that Week 11 matchup against Green Bay, the Bears just signed a prospect who spent last year with the Packers. Bears insider Brad Biggs reported that Chicago is signing tight end Joel Wilson to the practice squad, replacing Tommy Sweeney who was placed on the practice squad injured reserve earlier.

Wilson was signed to the Packers practice squad during the 2023 season. He was released at the roster cutdown day before the 2024 season. In his career, he has also spent time on the practice squad of the Saints, Bills, and Giants but has failed to make his NFL debut yet.

The 24-year-old tight end out of Central Michigan will join the practice squad that has former Packers WR Samori Toure. The Bears currently have Cole Kmet, Gerald Everett, and Marcedes Lewis as their tight ends on their active roster. Wilson will have to wait for an injury to one of these veterans to potentially get elevated.
