Proposed Raiders trade lands former first-round pick in Las Vegas |
The are extremely thin at the wide receiver position going into Week 8. Not only did the Raiders trade wide receiver Davante Adams to the New York Jets, but fellow wideout Jakobi Meyers is also banged-up.
The Raiders are also thin on wide receiver talent beyond 2024, so general manager Tom Telesco should be on the lookout for any young, promising wideouts who are available at the trade deadline.
In a recent article suggesting trades for every team in the NFL, proposed the Raiders striking a deal with the Tennessee Titans for Treylon Burks.
Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks. With the departure of Adams and absence of tight end Michael Mayer, the Raiders have a lot of targets available. Burks never hit for the Titans as an A.J. Brown replacement, but I’m still interested in the designed-touch and shot-play potential of a highly-explosive 225-pound receiver. Burks would slide into the WR3 role behind Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker, but he could also continue to get looks on special teams as a returner. But first, he’d need to get healthy; he is out with a knee injury.
A former first-round pick of the Titans in 2022, not only has Burks failed to fill the shoes of the guy he replaced, A.J. Brown, he has been a complete bust.
Burks has been plagued by injuries (he’s through Week 10) and hasn’t been effective when on the field. He has also struggled with drops and has some of the worst body control you’ve ever seen.
The only redeeming qualities he has are his age (24) and the fact that he has one more year left on his rookie contract, assuming his fifth-year option doesn’t get picked up (it won’t). The Raiders would have to really see something in him to even think of giving up a draft pick to acquire Burks’ services.
Speaking of compensation, Burks’ value is in the toilet, so it wouldn’t cost more than a late Day 3 pick to land him. He’d be worth taking a flyer on for a seventh-rounder.
