Vanderbilt football vs Kentucky: Final score as Diego Pavia leads second SEC win in a row

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Vanderbilt football won its second straight SEC game, defeating Kentucky, 20-13, at Kroger Field on Saturday night.

The Commodores (4-2, 2-1 SEC) got their second road win of the Clark Lea era. The first road win also came over Kentucky, in 2022.

Quarterback Diego Pavia has been busy on the talk show circuit and was named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week. Pavia threw for 143 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 53 yards.

Pavia appeared to suffer a knee injury late in the third quarter, but he came back in the game with a brace on his right knee.

The Wildcats are coming off an open week and before that, defeated Ole Miss. Kentucky has yet to score more than 20 points in any of its SEC games.

    Vanderbilt vs Kentucky score updates

    Fourth quarter

Vanderbilt 20, Kentucky 13: Brock Vandagriff 13-yard touchdown pass

Kentucky scored a touchdown in less than two minutes, marching down the field. But the holder fumbled the snap on the extra point attempt to keep the lead at seven for Vanderbilt.

Vanderbilt 20, Kentucky 7: Brock Taylor 50-yard field goal

Kentucky nearly added a score late in the third quarter, but the holder dropped the snap on a field goal attempt and had to attempt a throw that was intercepted. The Commodores went down the field but the drive stalled, resulting in Taylor’s fourth 50-yard field goal of the season.

    Third quarter

Vanderbilt 17, Kentucky 7: Brock Taylor 49-yard field goal

Vanderbilt’s drive stalled after Diego Pavia exited the game after losing his helmet on a second-down play. Taylor made the 49-yard field goal to extend the Commodores’ lead to 10.

    Second quarter

Vanderbilt 14, Kentucky 7: Diego Pavia 18-yard touchdown pass

On 3rd-and-8, Diego Pavia found Richie Hoskins with 13 seconds to go in the half for an 18-yard touchdown.

During a Kentucky run play, Vanderbilt pass-rusher Miles Capers took a hit and had to be stretchered off the field.

    Vanderbilt 7, Kentucky 7: Demie Sumo-Karngbaye 1-yard rush

Kentucky methodically marched down the field with a run-heavy drive and Sumo-Karngbaye scored from one yard out as the second quarter got underway.

    First quarter
