Heat Adding Tony Snell To G League Affiliate

Free agent NBA wingTony Snell is joining the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the G League, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Sioux Falls is the Heat’s NBA G League affiliate.

    Tony Snell, Heat, NBA

Snell, 32, is 6-foot-6 and has played in the NBA for nine seasons, most recently with the Trail Blazers and Pelicans in 2021-22. He has also spent time with the Hawks, Pistons, Bucks and Bulls, carrying career averages of 6.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 43.1% shooting. That includes 39.4% shooting on 3-pointers, as Scotto noted.

The Heat are coming off a season in which they failed to get out of the first round of the playoffs, losing to the eventual-champion Celtics in five games. Miami actually lost to the eventual champion in each of the past two years, falling to the Nuggets in the NBA Finals in 2023.

As for Snell, it appears he is still longing for a shot to return to the NBA, and that likely will hinge on how well he does with the Skyforce. Other veterans have tried to take similar paths, with the likes of guards Isaiah Thomas, Norris Cole and Mario Chalmers among those who have played in the G League.

The G League Draft is set for Oct. 26, with training camps scheduled to tip off on Oct. 28. The actual season begins on Nov. 8.

Sioux Falls finished 22-12 last season, good enough for second place in the Western Conference standings.
