Warriors’ Steph Curry embracing change ahead of the new season

After losing Klay Thompson at the start of free agency, the Golden State Warriors did a good job of pivoting to round out their roster with reliable veterans. They secured Kyle Anderson, De’Anthony Melton and Buddy Hield throughout the summer, and while none of those additions are of the superstar variety, they do provide depth and unique skillsets for Steve Kerr to experiment with.
During his media day news conference on Monday, Sept. 30, Stephen Curry discussed Golden State’s latest additions, noting how the new additions fit the team’s style of play before admitting that Kerr’s roster needs to evolve in how they approach games on both sides of the ball.
“It’s very similar, for sure,” Curry said. “…Guys have been around the league in different situations. And I think fit the style that we try to play, even though we do need to evolve and have a different look on offense and defense. We’ve had two years of some kinda stagnant ball at times. Still enough that we’re convinced we can be a good team. Obviously, injuries aside, you want to have everybody available. I think the pieces fit and a good balance of youth and veteran presence that can hopefully get us off to a good start.”
The biggest task on Kerr’s plate right now is figuring out how to adjust the team’s system to get the most out of the roster’s talent. He’s recently hinted at simplifying the playbook and streamlining the team’s approach. However, with so much versatility at his disposal, there’s a chance he could look to alter the team’s overall approach.
It will be interesting to see what changes Kerr implements heading into the new season and whether that can help get the franchise back on track in the new season.
