Nicholas Pooran Breaks Mohammad Rizwan’s World Record Of Scoring Most T20 Runs In A Calendar Year – News18
Star West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran was in action for Trinbago Knight Riders on Friday (September 27) in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 match against Barbados Royals, which was played in Tarouba. The left-handed wicketkeeper-batter came out to bat at No. 3 for the Kieron Pollard-led side and scored 27 runs from 15 balls with the help of four fours and one six.
During his 27-run knock, Pooran broke Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan’s world record of scoring most T20 runs in a calendar year. The 32-year-old Rizwan amassed a total of 2036 runs in 48 T20s played in 2021, whereas Pooran now has 2059 runs to his name in 66 T20s played so far in 2024.
In 2024, apart from playing for the West Indies, Pooran represented Lucknow Super Giants in IPL, MI New York in Major League Cricket, Durban Super Giants in SA20, MI Emirates in ILT20, Northern Superchargers in Men’s Hundred competition, Rangpur Riders in Bangladesh Premier League, and Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL.
He has already broken the record for most runs in a calendar year in T20s.
Rizwan and Pooran are only two batters in T20 history to score more than 2000 runs in a calendar year. England’s Alex Hales and Jos Buttler are in third and fourth position, with 1946 and 1833 runs to their names in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Rizwan again takes the No. 5 position with 1817 runs in 2022 and is followed by Babar Azam, who amassed a total of 1779 runs in 46 T20s played in 2021.

In the match No. 28 of CPL 2024, Knight Riders beat Royals by 30 runs to take No. 3 position in the points table. For the hosts, captain Kieron Pollard top-scored by making 42 runs from 27 balls, whereas Keacy Carty and Andre Russell contributed 32 and 31 runs, respectively.
In reply to the 176-run target, the Royals could only manage to score 145 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs.
