Brewers set NL Wild Card Series roster
No major surprises as Brewers get set for series with Mets
The Milwaukee Brewers have released their roster for the NL Wild Card Series. It is as follows:
Catchers (3): William Contreras, Eric Haase, Gary Sánchez
Infielders (6): Willy Adames, Jake Bauers, Rhys Hoskins, Andruw Monasterio, Joey Ortiz, Brice Turang
Outfielders (5): Jackson Chourio, Isaac Collins, Sal Frelick, Garrett Mitchell, Blake Perkins
Pitchers (12): Aaron Ashby, Aaron Civale, DL Hall, Jared Koenig, Nick Mears, Trevor Megill, Frankie Montas, Tobias Myers, Joel Payamps, Freddy Peralta, Joe Ross, Devin Williams
There are no major surprises, unless you count the inclusion of Frelick, whose nasty collision with a wall on Friday left his status in doubt. He’s on the team, though Adam McCalvy notes that it is likely to be Mitchell in right field (which seems to imply Perkins in center and Chourio in left) when the lineup for game one drops this afternoon.
The two players left off the season-ending 28-man roster are Colin Rea and Hoby Milner, both of whom pitched on Sunday. The roster also doesn’t include Bryan Hudson, who has been with Triple-A Nashville for the past month. It’s not a shock that Hudson didn’t make the roster, though without him and Milner, it leaves the Brewers with only three left-handed pitchers—Ashby, Hall, and Koenig—on the roster. It is perhaps notable that the Mets only have two full-time left-handed hitters on their roster (Brandon Nimmo and Jesse Winker, while Francisco Lindor is a switch hitter).
The Mets’ roster is as follows:
A reminder that teams can reset their rosters in between rounds, so if Milwaukee advances, they could reshuffle this roster if they wanted to.
UPDATE: The Brewers posted their lineup, with both Frelick and Mitchell starting (and Perkins on the bench).
