LeBron James “Lost Focus” Watching Bronny James During Lakers’ Offseason Workout
This upcoming season will mark the 22nd for LeBron James and, by now, he’s seen almost everything there is to see as a player. Still, the 2024-25 campaign will be entirely new ground for the King for obvious reasons and he recently admitted on the GoJo & Golic show that he’s caught himself in awe of the moment.
“It’s definitely different in the sense of just with Bronny being part of the team now, I’m looking at you two guys right now, I think it’s one of the greatest things in the world to be able to work with your kid,” said James. “This week, we got back into the gym and it was really the first time that me and Bronny were basically on the floor as professionals training, going against each other and preparing for the season.
I had a couple moments where I kind of just lost focus, and I’m not used to losing focus when I’m out on the floor. But there was a couple times where I was looking to the side and just watching him and watching him prepare and go after it. It’s gonna be an unbelievable year for myself and I hope for him as well.”
As October approaches on the horizon, the Lakers (just like every other NBA team) are gearing up for a brand new season. After an electric performance at the Olympic Games, expectations remain high for LeBron even at 39 years old. Now that Bronny has entered the fold, however, this season has become something more than just competing for Western supremacy.
Bronny’s arrival has been years in the making for LeBron and the Lakers and the process wasn’t a particularly easy one. After a modest season at USC, where he averaged 4.8 points per game James’ draft stock settled to the low second-round. Thanks to some maneuvering from Rich Paul, the Lakers’ pursuit of Bronny went unchallenged and they were able to pick him up with the 55th pick.
The 6’2″ guard isn’t seen as a top prospect in his class but he’s shown flashes of greatness when it comes to playmaking, ball handling, and shot creation. Most importantly for the Lakers, his presence ensured LeBron’s loyalty which keeps the team in a position to compete for a title.
With just a few years left of his NBA career, LeBron still has a few boxes to check before it’s all said and done. As soon as opening night, one of LeBron’s biggest ambitions will finally be realized when he shares the court with Bronny in a real game for the first time.
No matter where the Lakers are in the standings, LeBron will be able to find some joy in sharing the court with his son and he’s got a reason to play now regardless of the team’s chances to win the West.
Out of everything LeBron has done (4x champion, 4x MVP), these moments with Bronny may be the proudest days of his career and the Lakers did everything they could to make sure it would happen.
Now, they need to find a way to make the roster work so they can win a lot of games and make their first season with the father-son duo even more special than it’s set to be.
