NFL Announcer Makes Viral Taylor Swift Joke During Chiefs, Bengals Game
draws a ton of attention everywhere she goes, including Kansas City Chiefs games to watch her boyfriend Travis Kelce play tight end.
In that context, announcer Jim Nantz made a Swift-themed joke during the first quarter of the Chiefs’ contest against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, September 15, at Arrowhead Stadium.
The CBS broadcast returned from a commercial break in the first quarter and panned to a view of Swift in a private box viewing the game, as she often does, with members of Kelce’s family and others.
Nantz dove head-on into the zeitgeist, making the following pun involving Swift and her “Eras Tour,” which is an exploration and celebration of her various eras of life and music making.
“Chiefs faithful loving this era of Kansas City football,” Nantz said.
There is little question that the Chiefs are in the greatest period of success they have ever experienced as an NFL franchise, winning the last two championships and standing poised to compete strongly for a third in a row, which would be a record in the Super Bowl era.
Meanwhile, Swift is a self-made billionaire performer currently on a hiatus from arguably the biggest and most successful musical tour in the history of the music business — creating an interesting parallel between her achievements and those of Kelce and the Chiefs over the past year or so.
