Brian Daboll announces the Giants five team captains
No real surprises here
The New York Giants have taken another step in the process of forging their team for the 2024 season. Head coach Brian Daboll on Tuesday announced the team captains for the year, and there’s only one mild surprise.
As usual, the players on the team voted for their team captains, and they are:
- Offense: QB Daniel Jones, OT Andrew Thomas
- Defense: Dexter Lawrence II, LB Bobby Okereke
- Special teams: Casey Kreiter
Kreiter was chosen over long-time veteran kicker Graham Gano. Otherwise, there aren’t really any surprises.
Jones and Thomas are the obvious choices on offense. Jones is the most important player on the team and the face of the franchise. Thomas, meanwhile, is the leader of the offensive line and the best player on the offense.
Lawrence is, likewise, the best player on the defense and arguably the best player on the team. He’s also well-liked and popular thanks to his larger-than-life personality and a has evolved into a great leader in the locker room. Okereke, meanwhile is the defensive signal caller and one of the true Iron Men in the NFL. The Giants’ MIKE linebacker played every one of the Giants’ 1,128 defensive snaps in a breakout year in 2023.
