Despite the optimism going around, there’s a catch here for everyone involved. At 34 years old and coming off two major injuries, Thompson is not the same player he once was. However, the Mavericks believe he can still be the final piece to their championship puzzle.

Thompson leaving the Dubs was due to the protracted contract negotiations which he said he . Uncle Drew, who had a successful season with the Mavericks, saw the organization to make him feel comfortable and hoped to replicate that experience for Thompson.
The addition of Thompson brings a tough pedigree of being a four-time NBA champion and five-time All-Star. His championship-winning mentality might be all the Mavs need to right last season’s heartbreak. Joining forces with Uncle Drew and Doncic will undoubtedly make the Mavs a force to reckon with.
