The trade market saw remarkable movements across the league. However, none came as amazing or emotional as the departure of longtime Warrior Klay Thompsonto the Dallas Mavericks. Head coach Jason Kiddrecently spoke to Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News. In the interview, he talked about the significance of the veteran three-point specialist’s addition to his roster.

Jason Kidd, during , expressed his optimism about the upcoming season. He cited the  as a key factor in the newfound belief. With Thompson doing what he does best, the Mavericks are expected to be among the top contenders for the Western Conference title.

Despite the optimism going around, there’s a catch here for everyone involved. At 34 years old and coming off two major injuries, Thompson is not the same player he once was. However, the Mavericks believe he can still be the final piece to their championship puzzle.

Klay Thompson had run out of his contract at the Golden State Warriors at the end of last season. It still was not going to be easy to win his services, as the Los Angeles Lakers wanted Thompson. Joining the Mavs was down to the impact Kyrie Irving played as an “agent.” Coach Jason Kidd acknowledged his role in the process.

When you talk about the recruitment, it was a lot of people that were involved in that. But one of the biggest players in that was Kai. Thompson leaving the Dubs was due to the protracted contract negotiations which he said he . Uncle Drew, who had a successful season with the Mavericks, saw the organization to make him feel comfortable and hoped to replicate that experience for Thompson.

The addition of Thompson brings a tough pedigree of being a four-time NBA champion and five-time All-Star. His championship-winning mentality might be all the Mavs need to right last season’s heartbreak. Joining forces with Uncle Drew and Doncic will undoubtedly make the Mavs a force to reckon with.
