It’s a sad day for the Golden State Warriors . While it is by no means official, it now appears that the Klay Thompson ship has already sailed.
At this point, it has become abundantly clear that the five-time All-Star has already played his final game for the Dubs. This is without a doubt a hard pill to swallow for Warriors fans everywhere.
Golden State Warriors News: Klay Thompson on His Way Out
NBA insiders Shams Charania and Anthony Slater of The Athletic published a comprehensive report on Saturday about Thompson’s looming departure. Apparently, contract negotiations have completely broken down between Klay and the Warriors, which has now led to the five-time All-Star’s imminent exit:
“The Golden State Warriors are preparing to lose four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson in free agency, an expected parting of ways between a legendary dynasty and one of its legacy players, league sources told The Athletic,”
“Thompson and the Warriors have had close to no communication since the negotiating period opened for incumbent free agents nearly two weeks ago and no offer has been made, team and league sources said. … The five-time All-Star guard is determined to find a new home elsewhere for his 14th NBA season and beyond, with both sides believing their 13-year run together is over, league sources said.” read the report.
That’s just brutal.
Warriors Willing to Help Klay Thompson Find New Team
The Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks are the two teams that appear to have emerged as the front-runners to land Thompson in free agency. The Los Angeles Clippers are another team that is reportedly in the mix.
For their part, the Warriors are reportedly willing to help Thompson find his next team:
“The Warriors are open to participating in a sign-and-trade with Thompson to aid in his earning potential, those sources said,” read the report.
This move would also benefit Golden State in that they could potentially get something in exchange for their soon-to-be former superstar shooting guard as opposed to losing him for nothing in free agency.

Rumor: Utah Jazz Placing Former Rookie of the Year Contender on Trade Block
Free-agent forward agrees to multiyear deal with Suns
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, free agent forward Royce O’Neale intends to sign a four-year, $44M contract to remain with the Suns. Zach Lowe of ESPN adds that the deal won’t feature a team or player option and will be fully guaranteed. It will be the most lucrative contract of O’Neale’s career, topping his previous four-year, $36M extension that will expire. The No. 19 player on our list of this year’s top 50 free agents, O’Neale has been a reliable, durable wing since entering the league in 2017, never appearing in fewer than 69 games in a season across stints in Utah, Brooklyn, and Phoenix. The Suns acquired the former Baylor standout from Brooklyn in a three-team deal at February’s trade deadline. A versatile defender with the size to match up against bigger wings and forwards, O’Neale isn’t much of an offensive threat, having never averaged more than 8.8 points per game in a season. But he’s a solid three-point shooter, with a career rate of 38.1% from beyond the arc, and he has averaged 3.2 assists per game over the past two seasons. Because Phoenix projects to operate over the second tax apron in 2024-25, the team would have had no means to replace O’Neale or Grayson Allen with an equivalent player in free agency, so there was an expectation that both players would be re-signed. The Suns extended Allen in April and have now reached a deal to retain O’Neale. Since O’Neale was expected to receive interest on the open market from rival suitors, the belief was that Phoenix would have to go up to three or four years to beat out clubs who might offer a higher starting salary. That was the case, with the Suns making a guaranteed four-year commitment to the 31-year-old. As cap expert Yossi Gozlan reports, adding O’Neale’s new deal to the Suns’ books increases their projected team salary for next season to nearly $217M. The luxury tax line is expected to come in at around $171.3M. There may be more moves pushing the Suns’ salary in one direction or the other, but based on the current projections and tax penalties, it would be the second-most expensive roster in NBA history, says Gozlan.

NASCAR Truck Series driver pulled hours before race at Nashville
Thad Moffitt has already seen his weekend at Nashville Superspeedway come to an end before turning any laps. The 23-year-old driver was tapped to drive the No. 46 truck for the new Faction46 team at the start of the season. However, he will be replaced by Dawson Cram for Friday’s Rackley Roofing 200 at Nashville, with Moffitt being forced to sit out the 13th race of the season. Moffitt and Faction46 have struggled mightily in their first year together, as the team’s only finish higher than 24th came in the ninth race of the season at Darlington, where Moffitt put forth an 18th-place effort. Moffitt issued a short statement on Friday afternoon. “Unfortunately, due to circumstances out of my control, I will not be racing this weekend at Nashville,” Moffitt said in the statement, which was posted social media post. “It’s frustrating and disappointing for me, our sponsors, and all of our fans who have helped support me this season. But, as we work towards our next steps, I’m confident that I’ll be back on the track very soon. I look forward to seeing you at Pocono.” Based on the nature of Moffitt’s comments, it’s clear that he believes he’ll be back in the No. 46 truck at Pocono on July 12. With an off weekend situated between Nashville and Pocono, Moffitt and team executives will have an opportunity to talk about the situation and decide on his future with Faction46 moving forward. As for Friday’s race, Cram seems to be a suitable replacement for Moffitt. Cram himself has run 31 Truck Series races in his career and also has 24 starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series to his name. The No. 46 truck will have to qualify its way into Friday’s race on speed, making the qualifying session (5 p.m. ET, FS2) all the more important for Cram. The green flag will fly for the Rackley Roofing 200 just after 8 p.m. ET, with coverage on FS2, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
Maple Leafs’ Auston Matthews snubbed from NHL All-Star teams
Brandon Aiyuk lists two teams he could join if he leaves 49ers
The month of June has been full of news pertaining to the strained contract negotiations between wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and the 49ers. As things currently stand, it appears that a trade is no longer expected separate the two parties, but negotiations seem to be at a standstill as both sides refuse to cede ground on price. While most all signs are still pointing to Aiyuk playing for San Francisco in 2024, he did mention two other teams whose uniforms he could see himself in should negotiations fall through over the summer. In his appearance on “The Pivot Podcast,” Aiyuk was asked what uniform he sees himself playing in next season. “If I were to take a guess, probably a Niner uniform,” he answered. “Probably a Niner uniform. If not a Niners uniform, probably a Washington Commanders uniform. If not a Washington Commanders uniform, probably a Steelers uniform.” Aiyuk would be a phenomenal addition to either squad. In D.C., the second-team All-Pro wideout would join Terry McLaurin atop the depth chart as Jahan Dotson would return to a WR3 role. Aiyuk would be a massive upgrade over last year’s WR2, Curtis Samuel. Currently, without Aiyuk, Washington has Dotson bumping up to WR2 in his third season as Dyami Brown, Olamide Zaccheus, and Jamison Crowder attempt to hold off third-round rookie Luke McCaffrey for the WR3 job. Aiyuk would also be an interesting addition to the Commanders due to his history with No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels. The rookie out of LSU transferred to Baton Rouge after three years at Arizona State. Daniels’ freshman season in Tempe aligned with Aiyuk’s senior year with the Sun Devils. Working together on offense, Aiyuk led the team with 65 catches for 1,192 yards and eight touchdowns. Reuniting the two could be a huge safety blanket for Daniels as he makes the jump to professional play. It’s been no secret that the Steelers are looking for veteran wide receiver help after sending Diontae Johnson to Carolina. The team currently rosters budding star George Pickens and Van Jefferson, who impressed in 2021 with an 800-yard, six-touchdown season but has faltered in the two seasons since. Pittsburgh also selected Michigan wide receiver Roman Wilson in the third round of this year’s draft and are holding out hope that third-year wideout Calvin Austin will blossom soon. Still, adding Aiyuk to the roster in Pittsburgh would be huge for new quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. The Steelers showed early interest in acquiring Aiyuk’s teammate, Deebo Samuel, back around the time of the draft, but should Aiyuk come up in an offer, it’s hard to imagine they would turn him away. When all is said and done, it’s still widely expected that Aiyuk will remain in the Bay Area for at least next season. The two sides continue to work towards a common goal, but the 49ers seem to be employing similar tactics as they did when extending Samuel two years ago. If that road continues, a new Aiyuk deal could be coming around the end of July, like Samuel’s did. Should things fall through, though, it sounds like Aiyuk is open to a change of scenery.
Chicago Bulls Rumors: 2-Time NBA All-Star Starter Could Be on the Trading Block Amid…
Chicago Bears Named Possible Suitor For Former Superstar Defender
The Chicago Bears have done a great job of upgrading the talent on their roster over the last offseason. General manager Ryan Poles had a lot of cap space and draft capital to work with, making the most of them. One of the positions that he has put a lot of those assets towards is linebacker. In free agency in 2023, he signed Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards to contracts shortly after the window to negotiate opened. Those are the headliners, but the depth behind them is excellent as well. Jack Sanborn has played well whenever pressed into duty and is a starter alongside Edmonds and Edwards. Backing them up is a strong group of Noah Sewell, Amen Ogbongbemiga and Micah Bakersville. They will all be competing for a spot on the 53-man roster behind the starters. While it seems like the Chicago Bears are set at the second level of their defense, one analyst believes they may not be done adding to the position. Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports believes they are a logical landing spot for former star linebacker, Shaquille Leonard. “If Leonard is simply looking to take on a rotational role to remain in the NFL, the Bears are an intriguing option… He could be a solid depth piece at the position,” wrote Sullivan. The other two teams mentioned by Sullivan as potential suitors are the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens. What those two teams don’t have, which the Chicago Bears do, is a head coach he has a previous relationship with. Matt Eberflus was the defensive coordinator for Leonard and the Indianapolis Colts in 2018 when he entered the league. His four-year dominant stretch out of the gate all came under Eberflus. In his first four seasons in the NFL, Leonard earned four All-Pro nominations, three first-team and one second-team, and three Pro Bowls. He was named Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2018, looking like the next star linebacker in the league. Unfortunately, injuries have derailed him in recent seasons. His production has fallen off as a result, but as a situational linebacker who knows the scheme, he could offer the Chicago Bears some insurance at the position.
