Weghorst off: The 8 Burnley FC players set to leave next summer if nothing changes
Several players see their contracts expire next year, with the Clarets having plenty of players’ future to sort out in the next 12 months.

Burnley will see Jack Cork and Johann Berg Gudmundsson leave the club on the expiration of their deals this summer.
The Clarets will be losing two experienced players when they depart, but their departures are understandable considering both are potentially entering the latter stages of their careers now.
Cork also struggled for game time during the 2023/24 campaign, so it wasn’t a shock to see him released.

In terms of others who could leave, Charlie Taylor is another man who could join the pair mentioned above, but the defender has been offered a new contract to extend his stay at Turf Moor.
Jay Rodriguez, however, will be staying put after putting pen to paper on fresh terms.
Looking to the future, we have listed the players who are set to leave for free in 2025 unless they are tied down to new deals.
Bailey Peacock-Farrell

Peacock-Farrell spent last season out on loan and the Northern Irishman has also spent time on loan at Sheffield Wednesday during his time at Turf Moor.
With James Trafford and Aro Muric currently ahead of him in the pecking order, it wouldn’t have been a surprise to see him released.
But the Clarets decided to activate their option to extend his contract this month – and he could potentially become an important first-teamer again if Trafford is sold.
Owen Dodgson

If Taylor departs, Dodgson could have more of an opportunity to shine for the first team.
However, the left-back has been unable to make much of an impact for the Clarets, making just one senior appearance during his time at the club.
With this in mind, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him move on permanently this summer.
Connor Roberts

With Archie Gray thriving, Roberts wasn’t one of the first names on the teamsheet at Leeds United during his loan spell there last season.
However, the Welshman is an extremely useful player to have at this level and played a big part in the Lancashire side’s promotion back to the top flight during the 2022/23 season.
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him become an important squad player again next season.
Samuel Bastien

Bastien didn’t play a huge part during his first season with the Clarets and with the midfielder going out on loan last season, he could potentially be deemed surplus to requirements at Turf Moor.
A new manager could potentially give him a chance to shine though – and he will need to use pre-season to prove that he should be a key part of their plans.
Josh Brownhill

Brownhill has been a key player for the Clarets in recent years and with this in mind, the Lancashire side will be relieved that they had the option to activate an extension on his contract this month.
Considering how valuable he was during the 2022/23 promotion-winning campaign, keeping him could be vital for the club and Kompany’s successor, as they look to secure an immediate return to the top flight again.

However, he failed to register a single goal or assist last term and this is why the 2024/25 campaign looks set to be a crucial one for the Englishman.
The 30-year-old should arguably be in his prime now, but he needs to be a more valuable contributor in the final third if he wants to extend his stay at Turf Moor beyond next year.
Jay Rodriguez

Experienced striker Rodriguez recently put pen to paper on a one-year extension, meaning his new deal won’t expire until the summer of 2025.
At 34, you’d suspect that whether he earns another extension will depend on his performance levels.
Even if he doesn’t earn a new deal after that, Huddersfield Town and Stoke City have recently been linked with a move for him, and it will be interesting to see whether they revive their interest next summer.
Wout Weghorst

Weghorst signed for the club back in January 2022 – and has spent the majority of his spell at Turf Moor out on loan.
Remarkably, he was previously loaned to Manchester United and more recently, he has spent time in the Bundesliga at Hoffenheim.
Recording seven goals in 28 German top-tier appearances last term, he has surely done enough to earn himself a permanent move this summer.
