Tennessee recently hosted another successful recruiting event that brought in many high-level prospects and numerous in-state targets for a fun weekend. One of those names was Lipscomb Academy linebacker Kris Thompson. He was former teammates with two Tennessee signees, corner Kaleb Beasley and linebacker Edwin Spillman. Thompson ranks as the No. 748 prospect in the 2025 class, according to the 247Sports’ Composite Rankings, and caught up with Volunteer Country after his stay.
“The visit was great; as soon as I walked in, I felt nothing but love,” Thompson stated. On his visit, Thompson received his Tennessee offer. When asked about his offer, Thompson stated, “I really just started giving Jesus Christ all the praise because it was his timing!”
He was asked what makes Tennessee unique to him. “The relationship coaches build with players is unique to me; I only got asked maybe two questions about football the whole day,” the in-state prospect states. He confirmed to Volunteer Country that he was around his position coach for most of the day, as he says, “I was with Coach [Brian Jean-Mary] the whole day, and we connected and just really enjoyed the day. The pitch to me was to keep making plays and just grind because if I keep getting better, then the sky is the limit.”
On a call, he got to speak to his former teammate, Beasley. “I got to connect with Kaleb; he called me after I got offered and just expressed how proud he was and that I know where home is.” Tennessee already has an advantage as an in-state prospect, but getting him in on a visit is even bigger. The Vols seem a solid option for the linebacker should they push down the stretch.
