Noel Tornqvist is a transfer target for Leeds United ahead of the January window and the Swedish ace has reacted to reports that Leeds have scouted him – underlining his delight to have attracted interest.
Tornqvist, 21, has broken into Mjallby’s side over the last 12 months. With the Swedish League going from winter to winter, Tornqvist has kept 11 clean sheets in 29 games during 2023 – conceding just 34.
Leeds do have options between the sticks. Right now, Illan Meslier is first choice – while Karl Darlow has been brought in to compete with him. Kris Klaesson has been left in the wilderness, as our third choice.
Too old for the 21’s, but not good enough to overtake Meslier or Darlow. So, it is a bit of a surprise to hear that Leeds want to sign a goalkeeper in Tornqvist. Fotbollskanalen say Leeds have scouted him.
“Of course, it’s great. An acknowledgment that you have done something good. It makes you happy and proud. It sounds cliché, but that’s kind of how it is. I’m very happy with my season,” Tornqvist said.
“You’re going to find out that clubs have been looking. But I’m fully focused on Mjällby. Of course, you hear it and find out. The Premier League and English football, England is the dream destination.”
Noel Tornqvist a Leeds target and is delighted to attract interest
There is no doubting that Tornqvist is a talent. A player with three Sweden U21 caps, and it would not be a difficult deal to do if Leeds make a move – especially, judging by Tornqvist’s comments on the interest.
But do we need another goalkeeper? Even if Klaesson goes, Leeds have the impressive Dani van den Heuvel coming through the 21’s who would be a solid third option. Meslier of Darlow would have to go.
