Latest Aston Villa news from Birmingham Live brings you the statement released by the club ahead of fixture with West Ham.
Aston Villa have released a statement ahead of the Premier League clash with West Ham on Sunday (4:30pm).
The statement reads: “Aston Villa strongly condemns the horrific and brutal acts of violence perpetrated against innocent people in Israel and Gaza and is shocked and saddened by the escalating crisis in the region.
“We will join our fellow clubs in wearing black armbands and observing a minute’s silence before our home fixture with West Ham on Sunday as football remembers all the lives lost in recent days.
“Following consultation with the Premier League and other stakeholders, supporters are advised that bringing Israeli or Palestinian flags or other material to Villa Park is not permitted. It is the club’s primary duty to ensure that fans can enjoy watching football in a safe and secure environment.
“The current advice from safety experts is that permitting either Israeli or Palestinian symbols could result in potential flashpoints or be seen as provocative to some elements of our communities. We would appreciate everybody’s cooperation in this matter.”
