The latest Aston Villa news as the two players had their place at Euro 2024 with their nations confirmed on Sunday night.
It has been a successful international break for two of Aston Villa’s players so far this week, as they achieved qualification for Euro 2024 with their national teams.
Midfielder John McGinn and defender Pau Torres are among the Villa players to be in action this week. But, while Scotland weren’t in action this weekend, Spain’s result against Norway had a big impact on both teams, with McGinn and his teammates likely to have been watching the action closely.
The two teams met on Thursday in Group A of qualification. Goals from Alvaro Morata and Oihan Sancet in the second half gave Spain a 2-0 win.
That result left Scotland in second place in Group A, behind Spain. But they knew that a Spain victory over third-placed Norway would see them book their place in next year’s tournament.
A 49th-minute goal from Gavi gave Spain a 1-0 away win. It was a result that booked a place at Euro 2024 for both themselves and Scotland.
A week after scoring his first Villa goal, centre-back Torres was an unused substitute for the game, as he was against Scotland on Thursday. He is however likely to be included in the squad for the tournament, having been a regular pick for Spain since making his debut in 2019.
Following the win over Norway, Villa were among those to congratulate the player on Securing qualification. The club sent a similar message to McGinn and Scotland following their qualification.
The team don’t have too long to celebrate, as they are back in action on Tuesday night. Scotland take on France away in a friendly match, with kick-off at 8pm.
