Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.
Crystal Palace have often had bad luck when it comes to signing strikers – as the likes of Alexander Sorloth have struggled at Selhurst Park.
The Eagles have not been blessed with a truly prolific talisman ever since Glenn Murray’s 31-goal haul in the 2012/13 campaign, and while Christian Benteke appeared to buck the trend with his 15 goals in the 2016/17 Premier League season, the Belgian quickly fizzled out.
Now – in a surprising turn of events – the aforementioned Alexander Sorloth is shining away from Crystal Palace…
What’s the story?
Well, Dougie Freedman clearly saw something in the Norway international when he encouraged Steve Parish to hand FC Midtjylland £9m for his services back in January 2018.
Unfortunately, Sorloth found life tough in south London, scoring just one goal in 20 appearances before he was sold to RB Leipzig in a £20m deal back in September 2020, following an impressive loan spell at Trabzonspor.
MORE PALACE STORIES
Since leaving Crystal Palace on a permanent basis in September 2020, the 27-year-old has racked up an impressive goal tally, scoring 35 goals in total for RB Leipzig, Real Sociedad and now Villarreal.
Alexander Sorloth shines after Crystal Palace exit
Sorloth initially struggled at RB Leipzig, scoring just six goals in 38 appearances, although he has taken off in Spanish football.
The Trondheim-born striker scored a respectable 24 goals in 90 appearances during a two-year loan spell at Real Sociedad, which convinced Villarreal to sign him back in July.
Since joining the Yellow Submarine, Sorloth has scored five goals in just ten outings, including a strike against Barcelona, as well as the winner in the UEFA Europa League victory over Rennes on Thursday.
35 goals in all competitions – for three different clubs – since leaving Crystal Palace in September 2020 is a solid return for a striker who many doubted during his time in SE25, to say the least.
