Jamie Shackleton was a notable absentee as Leeds United saw off QPR 1-0 at Elland Road.
Daniel Farke has moved to explain why Jamie Shackleton did not feature on Wednesday evening as Leeds United took on QPR at Elland Road. After starting two straight games at right-back for the Whites, Shackleton was conspicuous by his absence, with the makeshift defender not included in the match day squad at all.
That’s due to a shoulder injury he picked up in training in the build-up to the contest, which Leeds won 1-0 to get back to winning ways. Farke was unable to give much more information than that when speaking to the press after the game, nor did he confirm whether Shackleton will be available to take on Bristol City this weekend.
But, he did clarify why the 23-year-old, who has been one of the stars of the season for Leeds so far, wasn’t seen on the pitch against the Hoops.
“Sadly, he got a little knock on his shoulder yesterday in training,” Farke admitted when asked why Shackleton was missing. “He had some problems with the shoulder before, it was too painful and too sore in order to be involved tonight, and that was the reason he was not with us today.”
Farke also explained why he withdrew Jaidon Anthony after just 65 minutes of action, with the winger being replaced by Dan James after hurting his ankle. Anthony shone brightly on his full debut for the club and made another strong impression at Elland Road, but he’s one Farke and his medical team will be monitoring closely ahead of the clash with the Robins on Saturday.
“He rolled his ankle also a little bit and felt some pain in the second half and didn’t want to risk too much,” he added. “That was the reason I substituted him after 60 or 65 minutes.”
