Latest Aston Villa news from Birmingham Live as Anwar El Ghazi finds new club after PSV exit
Former Aston Villa star Anwar El Ghazi is set to complete a move to Bundesliga outfit FSV Mainz.
The 28-year-old ended his four-year association with Villa last summer to return to his homeland and join PSV. He played a total of 33 games and scored nine goals for the Dutch outfit before departing the club by mutual consent this summer.
El Ghazi was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia as well as Manchester United earlier this month. The Athletic claims Birmingham City were among the Championship clubs who “considered” a move for the winger.
As a move to England has been ruled out, El Ghazi is now off to Germany after a deal was agreed with Mainz.
Sky Sports in Germany report that the Dutchman will put pen-to-paper on a one year contract and the club hold the option to extend it for another year.
El Ghazi made a total of 119 appearances in Claret and Blue and also had a loan stint at Everton.
